Teen’s close encounter with legend

Colac’s Edward Gunning had a big day when rock legend Iggy Pop pulled him on stage.

Colac’s Edward Gunning didn’t expect to have a close encounter with rock royalty when he attended Melbourne’s Big Day Out festival.

But that’s exactly what happened when iconic musician Iggy Pop pulled the 16-year-old on stage during the weekend’s concert.

“I was in the first few rows and Iggy already had about 15 people on stage with him,” Edward said.

“And then suddenly some random behind me boosted me up and Iggy started pulling me up too,” he said.

“I was half on stage, and then security pulled me down because they didn’t want anyone else up there, which was a bit of a shame,” he said.

Iggy Pop encouraged people to join him on stage when he performed at Melbourne’s Big Day Out, including Colac’s Edward Gunning.

Edward said he had read about Iggy Pop’s legendary live performances but never thought he’d be a part of the show.

“I’d heard that he does some pretty crazy stuff and likes to get the crowd involved,” Edward said.

“I’ve always liked his music so that was definitely the highlight of the day for me,” he said.

Edward will take to a stage in Colac when he performs in the Colac Players’ production of Robin Hood this month.
