Truck leaks acid

FIRE authorities have praised the actions of a truck driver after his vehicle leaked about 200 litres of dangerous acid near Cobden.

Cobden Country Fire Authority volunteer Mark Roberts said the truck, which was carting bulk chemicals, was travelling towards Cobden on Cobden-Stoneyford Road when the driver noticed duplex acid leaking from the vehicle about 11am yesterday.

Mr Roberts said CFA, police, Warrnambool Hazmat, WorkSafe and the Environment Protection Authority attended the scene of the incident, which occurred near the intersection of Cobden-Camperdown Road.

He said authorities and representatives of the driver’s transport company neutralised the acid and cleaned up the spill.
