Alternative plan for harbour

Apollo Bay lobby group Otway Forum has developed alternative plans for an Apollo Bay harbour redevelopment.

AN APOLLO Bay lobby group has released an alternative plan for the town’s harbour, rivalling civic leaders’ plans for the site.

Otway Forum hired Melbourne-based architectural company GbLA to develop a harbour precinct plan to put forward to Colac Otway Shire Council.

The group’s plan includes a national park office, a waterfront café and new toilets and change rooms, and excludes the council’s proposal for a hotel.

The council received State Government funding to develop a master plan for the town’s harbour precinct but has faced mounting criticism from Apollo Bay residents fearing over-development.

Peter Fillmore

Otway Forum’s Peter Fillmore said he believed the group’s harbour plan would receive more support than the council’s 2008 proposal which included a resort and new access road on the Apollo Bay golf course.

The council said it would consider Otway Forum’s plan as part of its community consultation.

Otway Forum will present the new plan at its public meeting on Sunday at Apollo Bay Golf Club.
