Tennis titles are family affair

Kawarren Red cousins Sue McGann and Lisa Crabbe are ready to contest this Sunday’s PDTA doubles championship.

POLWARTH and District Tennis Association grasscourt championships are a family affair for Sue McGann and Lisa Crabbe.

The cousins, who play together for undefeated Kawarren Red, will compete together in this Sunday’s doubles championships against Pennyroyal’s Rhiannon White and Nicole Beatty on Sunday.

The clash at Colac Lawn Tennis Club will be the first doubles final for mother-of-three McGann, of Colac, who has won three singles titles since her first in 1985.

Gerangamete’s Crabbe will bring the experience to the team having won the doubles event in the past alongside Sue Gill.

The players are not the only members of the family with PDTA championships under their belts, with McGann’s mother Jean Whitehead on the list of past winners.

The duo will enter the clash with confidence having defeated White and Beatty during last Sunday’s qualifying round robin.

In the men’s doubles, Elliminyt White pair Khan Beckett and Brad Moloney will take on Kawarren father-son team Neville and Dean Towers.

Beckett and Dean Towers will also face off for the singles championship title, while White will meet Elliminyt’s Zoe Curtis in the women’s singles.

Mixed doubles will kick off the day at noon.
