COLAC’S Louise McNamara will trade netball umpiring for playing when she returns to Western Eagles this season.
McNamara had a year off playing in 2010 to concentrate on umpiring, but has returned to the club she has played with since under-17s.
The popular defender said she was itching to get back on the court after a solid pre-season and a premiership with The D Team in the Colac Summer Netball Association.
“I’m feeling good, I’m the fittest I’ve ever been and I’m keen to get back into it,” McNamara said.
McNamara, whose older brother Nathan captained the club’s senior football team last season, last played A Grade for the Eagles in 2009.
She said she hoped to play in the top grade again, but coaches are yet to finalise the sides.
Western Eagles coach Karen Slater said McNamara was in the mix for A Grade selection.
“She’s training quite well, there is no final decision on the final playing group as yet,” she said.
