A SEASON of hard work has led to state athletics championships for 15 Colac junior athletes.
A 15-strong Colac Little Athletics team will head to Bendigo Athletics Complex at Bendigo’s LaTrobe University to compete in Victorian state and field championships.
Colac’s junior athletes qualified for state championships after impressive results at regional championships at Ballarat.
Colac’s Elizabeth Koch-Brown will be the first club member to compete in the 12-year-old girls’ 1500-metre race walk.
Little Athletics record breakers Jalin Kite, discus, and Holly Robertson, javelin, will join Zoe and Amy Brauer who have a combined nine events on their programs.
Run Colac five-kilometre winner Ellie Loughnane will pit her skills in the javelin and 1500-metre run while Noah Ackerly and Kayla Clark leap into high jump and triple jump events.
Colac Little Athletics secretary Louise Brown said the state championships were the end of a successful season for the club.
“They’re all pretty ready with their training, they are excited,” she said.
“It’s good to see everybody has improved throughout the season and they’re looking forward to demonstrating their skills at the state level.”
Successful athletes can qualify for the Victorian junior athletics team.
Brown said Colac’s athletes would compete across a wide range of athletics disciplines.
“There’s a bit of everything, hurdles, javelin, high jump, long jump, triple jump, 1500 metres, race walking for the first time at states for our club,” she said.
“It’s good to see them doing well.”
