Koala rescue in town’s main street

A TRADESMAN and a postie have helped to rescue a koala from Apollo Bay’s main street.

Tradesman Geoff Woodcock spotted the koala outside a cafe and tried to herd it away from the road.

More than half an hour and two cardboard boxes later, the koala was secure and ready for a return to the bush.

“I just saw it walking down the path down to Cafe 153, and thought ‘what the hell is a koala doing down here?’” Mr Woodcock said.

He said koalas were an unusual sight at Apollo Bay.

“Not in the main street, I have seen them down at the beachfront at Marengo.”

Apollo Bay postie Mark Gaylard helped catch the koala, using his jacket to wrap it up before putting it in a box.

“Geoff did a marvellous job, he’s got the scratches to prove it,” Mr Gaylard said.

Wildlife rescuers picked up the koala and returned it to the bush after its main street adventure.
