POLICE from Colac and Warrnambool travelled to Birregurra to investigate two burglaries.
Colac Criminal Investigation Unit’s Detective Mick Palmer said offenders had broken into the Birregurra Golf Club’s clubhouse and forced their way into an office area, where they stole a “small amount” of money before an alarm sounded.
Det Palmer said the burglars also jemmied open a green fees box to steal money.
“There was approximately $150 stolen and a couple of hundred dollars worth of damage,” he said of Friday morning’s burglary.
Det Palmer said crime scene officers from Warrnambool examined the scene and police did a doorknock in the area.
He said he hoped to speak to the owner of a dark blue or black Holden Commodore station wagon which people had seen around Birregurra Golf Club about 5am on Friday.
Meanwhile, police are appealing for witnesses to a break-in at a shop in Birregurra’s main street.
Det Palmer said thieves broke into the business through a side door between Tuesday and Friday, stealing an unknown but “substantial” amount of clothes and jewellery.
People with information on either break-in can contact Det Palmer on 5230 0000 or CrimeStoppers.
