COLAC kindergartens and primary schools will have new children’s classics on their bookshelves this week.

Employment organisation Matchworks is donating a set of Dr Seuss and Roald Dahl storybooks to Colac’s primary schools and kindergartens as part of Book Week.

Matchworks’ Valerie Keem said the book gifts would help foster literacy among Colac’s children.

“We are doing it as a support of local school and community; we deal with employment, we see people coming through at the other end,” Ms Keem said.

“Literacy is becoming more important in the employment labour force,” she said.

“There’s not as much labour work or manual work these days, there’s more working with computers.”
