FAMOUS radio hosts Kyle and Jackie O have backed Simpson Football Club for the Colac district footy grand final.
Kyle Sandilands and Jackie Hendersen, known as Jackie O, have donned Simpson Tigers vests to wish the club well in Colac District Football League’s biggest game of the year.
Former Simpson man Peter Deppeler is a regular fixture on Kyle and Jackie O’s breakfast show in Sydney and said he requested the vests to show his support to the club.
“Kyle and Jackie O always hear me talking about Simpson Football Club and it only seemed fitting for them to chuck them on,” Mr Deppeler said.
“I’m constantly talking on the show about how awesome the town of Simpson is,” he said.
“I plan on bringing them down to Mum and Dad’s farm before the year is out.”
Mr Deppeler, known as Intern Pete to the show’s listeners, said he tried to keep up-to-date with the Tigers’ progress.
“It’s always great to pop home when I can and pop into the Simpson Pub to get the local updates on the club,” he said.
“I really wish the Simpson Tigers all the best for the weekend’s game, it’s just so exciting.”
Mr Deppeler said he liked being able to promote the region to people he met while working in Sydney.
“Simpson is always home, I get home as much as I can,” he said.
“What I love sharing with people in Sydney is if you ever go to Victoria you have to go on the Great Ocean Road and make sure you go through Simpson.”
Simpson will play its first senior football grand final in 17 years, tomorrow against Birregurra, and the first since joining the Colac district league in 2003.
