Jo, are you in cloud cuckoo land. Domestic violence is the leading cause of death and injury in women under 45 with more than one woman
murdered by a current or former partner every week!
One in three women in Australia have experienced some form of violence since the age of 15, that’s 3.91million women.
You have every right to be concerned about the welfare of your sons but it is clear that it is our daughters who face the gravest danger in the domestic situation.

    1. So, violence by women against women? Why does the article mention only violence by men against women? Why are the anger management phone numbers for men, and the victim phone numbers for women? Is it not possible for a woman to need anger management because she’s beaten her female partner?
If the issue is violent men, why are there no victim phone numbers for men? Menin same sex relationships don’t beaten?
Women in same sex relationships are just as ignored in this article as the men.
Get rid of the emphasis on male violence against women. All domestic violence is wrong. Anyone who thinks otherwise, or thinks some should be excluded from assistance because the person who beat them has the wrong genitals is part of the problem
Let’s teach our kids that all violence is wrong. No matter who is the victim.

  2. And my comment standing up for males who are victims of domestic abuse didn’t make it online. Am I surprised? No, of course I’m not. They are the hidden, the ignored, the victims that no one wants to admit exist. That is abuse in itself. Disturbing to see that this paper is willing to add to that abuse.
White ribbon day should be about stopping all domestic violence.
It’s not. It’s about stopping violence by men against women. Not women against men, not men against men and not women against women.
I called it cowardice in my comment. It is still cowardice, and the person who looked at my comment and chose not to print it is just as guilty of ignoring the hidden victims as society in general.
By the way, I’m female. The mother of sons. They have a right to feel safe in their homes as well

    1. The heroes in this article are the women who are actively working to stop family violence.
These people have spoken out about family violence, a serious issue in the community. No one has suggested we should ignore other forms of violence, and we don’t ignore other forms of violence.
Working to stop any form of violence is a noble cause, and the people quoted in this article should be congratulated for their work, not only in campaigning against violence, but in supporting the victims of violence.
Women are three times more likely than men to be victims of domestic violence. Of all murders committed by an intimate partner, 78 per cent are perpetrated against women. Writing that does nothing to diminish victims of violence who don’t fall into these categories.
As we stated in the editorial that appeared in the same edition as this article, stopping violence at home is the first step in addressing the issue of violence in the wider community. Exposing children to violence at home can make them believe that violence is a normal part of life, and it shouldn’t be.
The Colac Herald is serious in its commitment to reporting on family violence issues, and we will continue to do so.
We would be more than happy to publish articles with people in our community who have been victims of violence of any sort, or who are campaigning against violence, or who are working to support victims of violence. This includes violence against men.

  3. Might be worth reading The Royal Commission on Human Relationships (1974-1978).

A lot of that was never implemented.

We now also have the drug problem that we were never going to have….or the gambling…..ARGH!
