COLAC SECONDARY COLLEGE’S new acting principal Jackie Dullard says she’s had a smooth transition into the role.
Ms Dullard has taken over as acting principal after principal Simon Dewar took leave from the school three weeks ago until the end of term three, to help in the launch of a new education company.
“I have been in education in Colac for a long time. I have been an assistant principal for over ten years,” she said.
“I have been the acting principal for a number of short terms.”
Ms Dullard said the transition into her current position was smooth after she worked closely with Mr Dewar.
“Simon and I had worked very closely on everything in running the school so it had been a very easy transition,” she said.
Rhonda Browne is the college’s new acting assistant principal.
Ms Browne said it was the first time she had an assistant principal position.
She said she was lucky to earn the position and planned to engage with students and the wider school community in a greater way.
“They are global students now, we are not dealing with kids that were the same as they were 20 years ago.
“So for me I am coming in attempting to engage the kids who are at risk or who suffer from maybe anxiety or struggling with school work, so I am working closely with the teachers and with the kids to try to reconnect them with school.”
Ms Dullard said the students and teachers had been accepting of the change.
“I think they were sorry to see Simon go but they have certainly reacted well to this and have accepted the change.”
