  1. As much as id love to more happening with the lake I also don’t want to see the natural evolution of it impacted anymore than it already has been.
If the current weather pattern goes and we return to something closer to what we had 30 years ago, the water level will rise quicker than it would of done back then. Some might ask why I say that… Simple! There is more housing and roads now which means less rain on the ground and more into the drains running to the lake.
That said, there is still plenty that can be done around the lake for locals and tourist to enjoy… Its just a matter of money and approval.

Congratulations to Maddy for her initiative. In the 90’s I was Chairman of the Lake Colac Consultative Committee which was under the then City of Colac Council. We gathered all the stake holders: Yacht Club, Lough Calvert Drainage Trust, Eel Fishermen, local residents, Shire of Colac, etc. At this time we developed the walking paths within the city perimeter but then the big drought hit and of course the reeds etc took over. I am so glad that this jewel in the crown is now being looked at again. It is an integral part of the Shire and should be treasured and nurtured. It would be wonderful to see if restored to it’s former glory and I believe that the Council should be supporting this initiative not just individuals.
