Former Colac man Kaden Newton’s 8-month-old nephew is inspiring him to complete in Sunday’s Great Ocean Road ultra marathon.
Doctors diagnosed Kaden’s nephew Lakyn, the son of his sister Jaalla Downie, with the chronic illness cystic fibrosis when he was only six weeks old.
Cystic fibrosis primarily affects the lungs and digestive system; it has no cure and requires constant medical treatments and physiotherapy.
Kaden completed his first marathon at last year’s Great Ocean Road Marathon and said he was planning to tackle the course again this year when he decided to take the ultra marathon challenge.
The ultra marathon includes running an additional 15 kilometres along the iconic road compared with a standard 45-kilometre marathon.
