Vic Country coach Peter Knights says Colac footballer Campbell Floyd well and truly put up his hand for state selection during his best-on-ground interleague performance.

Knights was in the crowd at Geelong’s Simonds Stadium to watch Floyd, 19, dominate for the Geelong Football League in Saturday’s battle for the number-one ranking
against the Eastern Football League.

Knights said he and fellow state selectors were likely to receive 80 to 85 nominations for players to represent Vic Country this year, which they would then whittle down to an initial training squad of about 40, that they would release next week.

Knights said Floyd’s best-on-ground performance would certainly put the former Geelong Falcon in good stead for state selection.
