Lorne’s star recruit Zach Gubbins won’t make a return to the club when he recovers from a collarbone injury after he requested for a clearance from the Dolphins.

The lively ball-winner would have been a welcome addition to Lorne’s outfit at the pointy end of the season.

But Dolphins coach Sam Stavenuiter said Gubbins was moving to Port Douglas, in northern Queensland, this week and had asked for a clearance from the club.

The former Barwon Heads midfielder joined the Dolphins this season and had an immediate impact before suffering a long-term injury in round two against coastal rival Apollo Bay.

Gubbins, who finished third in the Bellarine league best-and-fairest last season, earned initial selection in the CDFL’s interleague squad before injury ruled him out.
