Colac’s Ron Cowan, right, will celebrate his 100th birthday tomorrow alongside family members including son Rob Cowan, left.

Colac’s Ron Cowan is gearing up for a joyous celebration as he joins the 100 club tomorrow.

The soon-to-be centenarian has been opening letters of congratulations from Queen Elizabeth II, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and the Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove in the lead-up to his big day.

But Ron’s son Rob Cowan says encouragement from childhood friend and fellow Mercy Place resident Les Parker, 101, has been his father’s biggest inspiration to reach 100.

“Dad’s face just lights up when he comes in the room, they were old friends from junior cycling, and have only just got back in touch when Dad came here to Mercy Place,” Rob said.
