Lake Colac has formed the backdrop for an upcoming Chinese film, providing an economic and tourism boost for Colac.
More than 120 cast and crew travelled to Colac to film a scene at Lake Colac on Saturday for an upcoming gangster film by Dogfight Productions.
Filming happened around Colac’s Bruce Street with Lake Colac in the background.
Film trucks occupied the car park next to Lake Colac’s Bird Reserve and public access was restricted along the Lake Colac walking path between Church Street and Clarke Street.
Crew members stayed overnight at accommodation around Colac on Friday night.
Location manager David Hart said the film would be set in 1935 and producers had looked for a location to replicate the Shanghai River, because the river itself was “extremely broad”.
