Bandits target store in brazen burglary

Colac police have footage of thieves who stole a safe from Colac’s Subway restaurant on Wednesday morning.

Police are hunting for three offenders who stole a safe containing about $3000 from a take-away food outlet in Colac’s main street this week.

Colac Criminal Investigation Unit is appealing for witnesses to help find the thieves who police believe could have been travelling in a white Nissan Navara spotted on a CCTV camera in Murray Street around the time of the break-in.

Colac CIU detective Mick Palmer said three thieves wearing hoodies, masks and gloves forced entry into Colac’s Subway store about 2.20am on Wednesday.

“The three offenders forced entry into the store and stole the safe, which weighed 10 to 15 kilos and had in excess of $3000 in it,” Det Palmer said.

“They used jimmy bars to break in through the front door but had tried the side door as well.

“We have footage of the break-in from the store’s security cameras and we have CCTV footage of a white Nissan Navara which was seen in the area at the time.”
