The Colac Herald has celebrated 150 years of publication with a special edition looking back at the paper’s history and sharing memories of the region.
The December 16, 2016, edition of the Herald includes a 32-page souvenir edition that’s sure to bring back memories for readers.
The edition traces the history of the families behind the Colac Herald, shares memories of former staff and editors, and has messages from prominent community members.
Articles, photos and advertisements from the past 150 years also feature in the souvenir edition.
New feature articles include fourth-generation farmers the Roache family of Nalangil; retired car salesman Michael Ryan shares his memories of working with Henderson Motors in Colac; and former Member for Polwarth Terry Mulder reminisces about growing up in Colac.
Mary McGrath and Helen Gibson speak of their love of farming; former mayor Bill Egan looks back on decades of community service and volunteering; while ex-teacher Athol Jones shares his experiences teaching generations of Colac students.
Warren Riches and Trevor Mackay look back on sporting highlights in Colac’s history; and former Herald reporter Peter Hanlon reminisces about life in the Colac Herald newsroom in the 1980s.
