Dedication pays off for top-scoring teen

Trinity College Colac’s Toby McCarney is thrilled to be dux of the school this year.

Trinity College Colac’s Toby McCarney says his hard work and determination have paid off, resulting in a Year 12 score which exceeded his expectations.

The Year 12 graduate received dux of the school for achieving an Australian Tertiary Admission Ranking of 97.5.

Toby said his result was above what he hoped for and he was “over the moon” about his achievement.

“It’s been hard work getting here, I got the score that I wanted and I’m so satisfied, I’m happy with how it went,” he said.

“It’s amazing to know all my hard work and determination has paid off.”

Toby, who was also school prefect, studied physics, business management, English, maths methods and completed biology in Year 11.

“I feel honoured to be able to receive dux and to study at Trinity College,” he said.

“Many people often think that being a country town students are disadvantaged and students may not have as many opportunities for excellence in a country town.
