Six Apollo Bay mums with kids and crochet in common have been pounding the pavement in preparation for Sunday’s half-marathon along the Great Ocean Road.

Gosia Marian, Sharee Evans, Andrea de Kauwe, Victoria Jones, Gabby Moore and Tina Clissold will join thousands of athletes to walk the 23-kilometre course along the scenic road.

The dedicated group decided to tackle the event when school returned this year, regularly spotted at the seaside town training over the past five months.

Tina said all six members had a child each in Grade Two at Apollo P-12 College, and have had 15 kids between them.

They also share a passion for crochet.

Tina said the strollers aimed to complete the trek in less than four hours, and as a reward they would don a pre-knitted crown when crossing the finish line.

“We’ve been preparing since school went back,” she said.

“We are all mums, we all have a child in Grade Two and we’re crochet girls, so we’re hoping to do the walk together and we’ll all be wearing the same outfit.”
