Points boost for CDFL clubs

Western Eagles gun Jye Price is set to become a one-point player this year.

Three Colac district football clubs have received added player points on top of the two extra points granted to all CDFL outfits for the 2018 season.

AFL Barwon has finalised the player points limit for clubs this year, with all teams set a maximum of 40 points, up from 38 in 2017.

Western Eagles, 48 points, Otway Districts, 45, and Apollo Bay, 43, all successfully applied for more points this year.

AFL Barwon operations manager Michael Limb, who is also on an independent player points panel, said officials took into consideration clubs’ requests for additional points.

The Eagles are sitting on a 55-game losing streak entering the upcoming season, while Mr Limb said Apollo Bay’s and the Gellibrand-based Demons’ need to bolster their lists by recruiting were reasons behind the panel’s decision to allow for more points.

“The clubs that put in for extra points were assessed by the points committee,” he said.
