Newtown and Chilwell officials say they are excited that Birregurra export Josh Weatherhead could make his long-awaited debut with the club against the Colac Tigers tomorrow.

Weatherhead, who crossed to Eagles in the off-season after an impressive start to his senior career with the Saints, has been sidelined with a knee injury for the first five rounds of the Geelong Football League season.

The club’s football manager Terry Bright said Weatherhead was likely to return through the reserves.

“It might be his first game back in the twos this weekend, but he’s got to get through training,” Bright said.

Weatherhead enjoyed a successful junior career with Birregurra before developing into a key player in the Saints’ senior team in recent years.
