College graduates commit to Kookas

Former American college basketballer Nathan Lemke, right, has committed to play alongside his brother Rhys with the Colac Kookas’ Country Basketball League team this summer.

The Colac Kookas’ men’s basketball team has received a major boost in height and experience with the signing of former American college basketballers Nathan Lemke and Jordan Lingard.

Colac association president Peter Lemke said the pair had committed to their home club for the 2018-19 Country Basketball League season.

Nathan Lemke, 209 centimetres, last played with the Kookas in 2013 before spending five years in the college system with Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Coker College in South Carolina.

He will line up alongside his brother and 2018 championship player Rhys with the Kookas this season.

Lingard, 204 centimetres, played one season with the senior Kookas in 2013-14 before shifting to California, where he spent four years with Menlo College and Whittier College.

Mr Lemke, Nathan’s father, said it was a major boost to have two former Colac basketballers return to the program, while fellow tall and 2015 championship player Steve Packer was also set to return from a knee injury which sidelined him over the summer.
