Apollo Bay’s community will celebrate securing the remaining $180,000 funding needed to upgrade the town’s swimming pool after years of campaigning.

Corangamite MP Sarah Henderson will visit Apollo Bay today to announce Apollo Bay Aquatic Centre committee’s successful application of $180,000 to upgrade Apollo Bay’s pool through round two of the Federal Government’s Building Better Region’s Fund.

Apollo Bay community members have campaigned for more than 17 years to secure a heated indoor swimming pool for the township, with committee members, businesses and residents raising $250,000 to go towards the $450,000 project.

The upgrade includes heating the town’s existing 25-metre six-lane pool and enclosing it with a portal-form polycarbonate cladding structure, which will feature shutters that can open up during the warmer months.
