Hawks netball recruit flying at new home

Star Hawks netball recruit and Apollo Bay P-12 College school teacher Harmony Newman has fitted in nicely at the coastal town this year. The Bay plays Imperials tomorrow.

Harmony Newman has found no trouble fitting in at Apollo Bay both on and off the netball court after arriving at the coastal town at the start of the year.

The school teacher had a desire to move back to the Colac district after a stint at Ararat and landed a teaching job at Apollo Bay P-12 College.

Newman’s arrival at the Bay was timely for the Hawks, who have climbed the ranks in 2018 after returning to the A Grade competition last year.

Talented netballer Newman reunited with incoming coach Rhiannon White after the pair spent the early parts of their careers at Otway Districts.

Newman, who won a best-and-fairest at Ararat as a midcourter, has spent the season in defence and has grown in the role alongside emerging netballer and her cousin Joey Noseda.

Newman said having ties at her new home had made the transition easier.

“Family was the main reason for moving back to the area and it was just coincidence that Rhiannon took on the coaching role,” she said.
