South Colac officials remain hopeful star forward Ben Cox “won’t miss too much football” after he injured a shoulder in the Roos’ blockbuster victory against the previously unbeaten Birregurra.
South Colac asserted itself as a genuine premiership contender after ending the Colac district league powerhouse’s 15-game unbeaten run.
Football followers had touted the Saints and Lorne as this year’s flag favourites, but the Roos proved they can compete with the best, leading from start to finish in Saturday’s 10.10 (70) to 7.8 (50) win.
But the victory came at a cost, with star forward Cox going down with a shoulder injury in the first quarter.
“Coxy went down in the first five minutes, he tried to intercept a mark and strained his AC joint,” Roos coach Josh Black said.
“We’ll assess it during the week but I don’t think it was too bad, the positive was that we were able to find other avenues to goal,” he said.
Black said Cox’s injury was the only sour note on an otherwise positive four-quarter performance.
