Essendon Football Club has advised Cobden export Jackson Merrett that he will not be offered a contract for 2019.
Merrett, 25, spent seven seasons with the Bombers after the club selected him with pick 31 in the 2011 national draft, following a stand-out year with the Geelong Falcons.
He played 56 games at AFL level, but has managed just two in 2018.
The Bombers released a statement this morning, thanking Merrett for his commitment to the club.
“On behalf of the Essendon Football Club I would like to thank Jackson for his commitment to the club,” coach Josh Worsfold said on the Bombers’ website.
“The attitude and leadership he has shown both on and off the field is truly commendable. He has outstanding character and has helped to mentor and support the younger players on our list.
“Jackson is a highly respected player of this club and we wish Jackson all the best with his future endeavours.”
