Mentor to step down

Birregurra coach Sarah Breed will step back from the role after two years.

Birregurra is on a hunt for a new A Grade netball coach following the news that star midcourter Sarah Breed was set to step back from the role after two years.

Breed teamed up with Simone Smith in the role in 2017, and led the team solo this year, with Birregurra falling agonisingly short of a finals berth due to percentage.

The mother-of-two said she was eager to step back from head coaching duties but would still be around the club.

“I’m not really sure what my plans are, but I don’t think I will be coaching,” she said.

“I’ve got a bit too much on my plate with work and the kids now, but I’d definitely be open to an assistant role or something like that.”

Breed said the Saints’ experienced players like Karen Hart and Kirsty Roberts had made the coaching role easier this season, while C Grade coach Jess Wood had been a great support as the club’s A Grade bench coach.

But with Hart and Roberts likely to step back from top-grade duties next year, Breed said she would be unable to commit fully to the role.
