Century for Alvie skipper

Alvie skipper Andre DeLorenzo enjoyed a red-hot start to the Colac district cricket season with a knock of 121 during the Swans’ victory.

Alvie captain Andre DeLorenzo has scored Colac district cricket’s first century of the season, securing Alvie’s win against Colac West.

The Swans kicked off the batting and scored 244 runs in 49 overs, with DeLorenzo leading the way scoring 121 while Jarrod Groves scored 50.

Teenager Deakin Carmichael took five wickets for West and Rob Thresher took three.

Alvie then bowled Colac West out for 158 in 44 overs and teenagers Will Ruddell, 53, and Clay Mulgrew, 53, made half-centuries for West.

Jarrod Groves backed up his 50 and took four wickets for Alvie.

DeLorenzo said strong bowling by Groves contributed to his side’s win.

“He batted through that tough little period and went on with it and got a little bit of reward for it, and with the ball he did exactly what we asked.

“We just needed to tie down West for a little period to restrict their scoring and put a little bit of scoreboard pressure on them,” he said.

“He bowled fantastic, 4 for 8 off a few overs is terrific.”

DeLorenzo said good partnerships and the side’s determination helped Alvie come out on top.
