The Colac Tigers have copped a blow on the eve of pre-season with star onballer and former VFL footballer Sam McLachlan set to part ways with the club.
Tigers coach Kane Leersen confirmed yesterday that McLachlan, 23, was set to return to Hampden league club North Warrnambool to play under new coach and former AFL footballer Billie Smedts.
Leersen said it was disappointing to lose the talented onballer.
“We’d been in ongoing discussions with Sam for a while, he’s not living in Geelong anymore and he’s planning an overseas trip, so he wants to take a step back with his football commitments,” he said.
“He’s still got a lot of friends at North Warrnambool so these were all factors in his decision-making.
“I would have liked to have kept Sam, he’s a very good footballer, but we’ve all got lives we want to live and he’s got an opportunity to play with his mates at North Warrnambool, we can’t begrudge him for that.”
