Key tall re-commits, young duo to return

Sam Stavenuiter and Oscar Coutts.

Lorne football officials have confirmed that premiership co-coach Sam Stavenuiter will remain with the Dolphins next year despite overseas travel plans.

Speculation had surrounded the towering forward who stepped down from the coaching role due to travel plans next season.

But new Dolphins coach Jack Hollmer said Stavenuiter would remain with the club in a playing capacity, while the Dolphins have also welcomed back young tall Oscar Coutts from the Colac Tigers, and utility Tyson Matthews from Apollo Bay.

Coutts, who was unlucky to miss out on a spot in the Dolphins’ 2017 grand final side, spent this year with the Tigers’ under-19 team which finished runner-up.

Hollmer said midfielder Kane Smartt was the only player from Lorne’s 2018 premiership side in doubt to play next year with an impending move to Melbourne, while Indi Ryan and Cooper Hyde have already crossed to Bellarine league club Newcomb.

“At this stage we should be able to hang on to nearly everyone, Kane is moving to Melbourne but he hasn’t said he won’t be back just yet,” Hollmer said.
