Kookas storm home in thriller

Colac coach Peter Withers addresses his team during Saturday night’s win against Ararat. The Kookas stormed home from 21 points down to win by four.

Colac Kookas’ men’s basketball team has staged one of the biggest comebacks in club history during a thrilling Country Basketball League clash against Ararat.

The Kookas trailed by 21 points early in the third term before going on a 51-26 run to close out the game and record a memorable 100-96 win at Ararat.

Star recruits Jordan Lingard, 31 points, and Nathan Lemke, 29, led the second-half comeback, while skipper Sam Barrow was also influential with 19 points.

Kookas assistant coach Nick Forde said he was rapt the Kookas fought out the contest.

“One thing we spoke about at training, we wanted to make sure that whether we’re up by 20 or down by 20 that we were still giving the same energy off the bench and we were supporting each other,” he said.

“We were down by 20 but we were still up and about, and we were able to get things to swing our way.”
