Lights and camera upgraded at square

Colac Otway Shire mayor Joe McCracken is pleased with security upgrade progress at Colac Memorial Square. Upgrades include lighting and additional security cameras, which will help make the space appealing.

Contractors have begun security upgrades at Colac Memorial Square, making the space a safer and more appealing location for community members.

Colac Otway Shire Council successfully applied to the Department of Justice’s Public Safety Infrastructure Fund to improve lighting and install additional security cameras at Memorial Square.

The security upgrades work with the council’s masterplan for the square, which it endorsed in January.

Colac Otway Shire mayor Joe McCracken said contractors had installed energy-efficient lighting at the square, with security camera upgrades also underway.

“Council has replaced all 26 of the old lights with new energy-efficient LED lights and refurbished the existing poles to match the new grey luminaires,” Cr McCracken said, with contractors finishing the light upgrades before yesterday’s Remembrance Day service at Memorial Square.
