Rising stars remain in the mix

Colac’s Max Miraglia and Tom Hanson shared a memorable experience at the Australian under-15 titles.

Rising stars Tom Hanson and Max Miraglia remain in contention for Colac’s club championship after wrapping up a busy week of golf.

The pair returned from last week’s Australian Schools 15 Years and Under School Golf Championships in New South Wales to compete in the third round of their club event on Saturday.

Miraglia helped his former home the Northern Territory to third place in the teams event after he tied for seventh in the stroke standings, while Hanson placed six representing Victoria.

Hanson, who led the Colac event at the halfway mark, lost his lead to reigning champion Nick Welsh on Saturday.

Welsh shot a round-high 74, while Hanson’s 78 has put him three shots behind the experienced golfer.

Welsh, Hanson, Hanson’s dad Paul and Tyson Finn will tee off in the final group next week to determine the winner.

But club captain Michael Brennan said 14-year-old Miraglia and Jeremy Owens also remained a chance to win the title ahead of an exciting final round.
