Maree Murnane joined special company this week when she won her sixth Colac Golf Club Women’s Championship.
The popular golfer now sits equal second on the list of most titles at the annual event, sharing the mantle of six triumphs with her close friend Jayne McGlade.
The history of the famous winners’ trophy dates back to 1926 and only Marilyn Clifford has won it on more occasions than Murnane and McGlade.
Club legend Clifford claimed a whopping 16 victories between 1983 and 2001.
Murnane, a talented sportswoman who first picked up a golf club in 1990, took out Colac golf’s major event for the first time in 2004.
The 64-year-old, who currently plays with a handicap of 12, said it was an honour to share six titles with McGlade, after they shared special memories together in sport.
McGlade and 2016 winner Georgia Fish were forced to miss this year’s three-round stroke event.
“It was very unfortunate that Jayne and Georgia Fish were unable to play this year because they are single-figure golfers,” Murnane said.
