Big birthday for active artist

Glad Evans will turn 104 tomorrow and credits her “wonderful life” to good family and an adventurous spirit. Glad continues to create celebrated artworks using tree bark.

Colac’s Glad Evans has outlived most people and she has no intention of slowing down.

Glad will celebrate her 104th birthday tomorrow with friends and family at Mercy Place Colac, and she told the Colac Herald that a positive outlook and a close family had helped her to live a long life full of artistry and adventure.

She said she had witnessed incredible change during her lifetime, and that it was important to be optimistic and good to others.

Glad began using tree bark to create Australian images 35 years ago, and her work would eventually feature in exhibitions in Sydney and go on display internationally.

She said her centenary had failed to curb her creative talent and she had decided to begin making bark collages again two years ago.

Glad said one of her greatest adventures was traversing the icy slab at Fox Glacier in New Zealand with her late husband, Arthur.
