Star Lorne ruckman opts against retiring

Back-to-back Jack Mahoney Medallist Mark McCormack says he has opted against retiring and will return for a fourth football season with Colac district league club Lorne.

A chat with new Lorne coach Jack Hollmer has convinced two-time Jack Mahoney Medallist Mark McCormack to put off retirement.

The 32-year-old ruckman confirmed he had strongly considered hanging up his boots to spend more time with his family following his third season with the Dolphins, after winning his second league best-and-fairest award and an elusive flag in 2018.

But McCormack said a discussion with incoming coach and former Geelong VFL champion Hollmer persuaded him to go around for another season this year.

“I sort of thought about finishing up and spending more time with the family, my kids are at an age now where they’re starting to take up sport and it can be hard to juggle,” he said.

“But I had a chat with Jack before Christmas and I’ve decided to play on again.
