Young cricketers top the list

A post about Aaron Finch Award winner Josh Garner proved popular.

An article about emerging Colac district cricketers Henry Melville and Josh Garner has topped the list of most-liked stories on the Colac Herald Sport’s social media page in 2018.

The teenagers were the talk of the town following last year’s Bill Johnston Medal night, with Garner collecting the Aaron Finch Award as the highest vote-getter under the age of 18 at just 14 years of age, while 12-year-old Melville stunned the crowd by winning the Division Three senior best-and-fairest award.

The online post racked up 261 likes in late February, narrowly pipping an article about Dan Casey’s inspiring return to the football field.

The Colac Imperials senior coach made a shock return to the field in June, almost four years since his foot was crushed in a machinery accident.

Football followers thought the three-time Irrewarra-Beeac premiership star and Colac Tigers champion’s career was over following the incident in September 2014.
