Arts group pushes for a home

Beeac artist, art curator and Colac Otway Arts Trail member Anna Sande is among a group of district artists pushing to gain a permanent space to exhibit art in Colac. Artists have been using a temporary space in Colac.

A Beeac-based artist and curator says the membership of one of Colac’s arts groups proves the need for a dedicated arts space in the city.

Anna Sande, a member of Colac Otway Arts Trail group, says the 40 or so artists in COAT alone demonstrated the viability of a dedicated space to exhibit art in Colac.

Ms Sande said members of the group had been exhibiting work in a pop-up gallery in Colac for about three months, but their access to the space would end on February 24.

Corangamite MP Sarah Henderson donated the space, which was her former office, to the group until the space was re-leased.

Ms Sande said that currently there was no other dedicated space for local artists to exhibit their work in Colac.
