Irrewarra cricketers have celebrated the impact women have made during a new era for the Redbacks.

The club hosted a ladies’ day when Irrewarra took on Birregurra in Saturday’s Division One clash at Colac Secondary College.

The visiting Saints’ win might have put a dent in the Redbacks’ finals aspirations, but both clubs helped contribute to a significant cause off the field.

Irrewarra Cricket Club president Jarrod Hay said members from both clubs helped contribute upwards of $1000 for McGrath Foundation Breast Care Nurses.

Mr Hay said club officials wanted to recognise the contribution female members have made during the shift from Irrewarra to Colac.

The Redbacks led the charge for new clubroom facilities at Colac Secondary College, which they unveiled before the 2018-19 cricket season.

Irrewarra also had two teams in the inaugural CDCA Girls Cricket competition this summer.

“We probably had about 40 ladies at the day including some from Birregurra and some friends, so it was a great turnout,” Mr Hay said.
