Kooka earns All Star selection

Colac’s Nathan Lemke, centre, earned selection in the Country Basketball League’s All Star Five along with Mount Gambier’s Kane de Wit and Matt Berkefeld, Terang’s Scott Judd and Ararat’s Zac Dunmore.

Colac basketballer Nathan Lemke capped off a dominant return to the Country Basketball League with All Star honours.

CBL officials announced the men’s and women’s All Star Fives following Saturday night’s grand final matches at Colac’s Bluewater Stadium.

Lemke earned selection along with Mount Gambier championship players Kane de Wit and Matt Berkefeld, Ararat sharp shooter Zac Dunmore, and Terang guard Scott Judd.

Lemke, who averaged a league-high 26.5 points, played a dominant role for the Kookas at centre in his return season, following four years in the American college system.

“It was a nice surprise because there are a lot of strong players in the league,” Lemke said.

“Every team has a handful of good players, so it was nice Colac was able to get someone mentioned in there,” he said.

“It would have been nice to get a few more wins on the board and play finals but that’s basketball sometimes.”
