Lorne coach Jack Hollmer is confident the club’s new faces will help cover the loss of premiership midfielder Tom Steven.
Hollmer said Steven had crossed to Bellarine league club Anglesea, while veteran Ricky White was also unlikely to play after coming out of retirement last year.
Steven crossed to Anglesea in 2017, but managed just one game before suffering a season-ending ACL knee injury.
He returned to Lorne in round eight last year after recovering from a knee reconstruction, featuring in the Dolphins’ best players in 10 of his 14 games including all three finals matches.
Steven is the latest premiership player to part ways with the Colac district league’s reigning premier, joining Indi Ryan and Cooper Hyde who have joined Newcomb, and Kane Smartt who has crossed to Balwyn.
The Dolphins have recruited strongly so far this pre-season, welcoming Geelong Football League players Lochie Donne, South Barwon, Matt Mathieson, Lara, and George Steven, Oscar Coutts and Liam McCauley, Colac, while former VFL footballer Hollmer will also boost the side.
“Tom is a big loss, he’s gone back to Anglesea where he’s got a few mates,” Hollmer said of Steven.
“But hopefully the new recruits will help cover the losses,” he said.
