Former Warrion cricket captain Xavier Prime’s stunning all-round performance almost led the Panthers to victory against ladder-leader Stoneyford.
Prime picked up 4-45 to restrict the Maroon Caps to 202 during yesterday’s standalone Colac district Division One clash at Pirron Yallock.
The classy left-hander then notched up a half-century with the bat to give his side a shot at victory.
But Stoneyford’s bowlers rallied, led by Jesse Williamson, 3-22, and Arslan Khan, 2-27, while Lincoln Dare had his best outing with the ball this summer, picking up the key wicket of Prime on his way to two wickets.
The Maroon Caps ran out 22-run winners to extend their lead at the top of Colac district cricket, after second-placed Alvie lost at the weekend.
Earlier in yesterday’s match, Stoneyford skipper Dom Dare top-scored with 34 runs, while a host of his teammates made starts without posting a big score.
Lincoln Dare, 25 runs, Ollie McGuane, 23 not out, and Levi Dare, 21, all looked dangerous.
