A majority of submissions to a Victorian Electoral Commission review into Colac Otway Shire’s electoral structure have called for re-introducing a ward system.
The VEC received 44 preliminary public submissions to the review, 37 of them making clear statements pushing to divide the shire into wards.
Submitters supportive of the re-introduction of wards mostly stated their belief that the council underrepresented the shire’s coastal areas, with 32 submissions combined from Apollo Bay, Marengo, Skenes Creek, Wongarra and Lavers Hill.
Lavers Hill resident Stephen Hart was among people to make a submission in support of wards.
Mr Hart is a Colac Otway Shire councillor, but said that he made a personal submission to the VEC.
“Obviously the interest in Colac differs from outlying areas,” he said.
