First gold for Colac club in more than a decade

Colac’s Ellinor Borrack is the first Colac Little Athletics member to win gold at Little Athletics Victoria’s Track and Field Championships since 2004. Ellinor won gold and silver medals at the event.

Promising Colac junior athlete Ellinor Borrack has ended a 14-year-drought for Colac athletes at this year’s little athletics state championships.

Ellinor, who turns 12 tomorrow, became the first Colac Little Athletics member to win gold at Little Athletics Victoria’s Track and Field Championships since 2004.

Ellinor knocked a whopping 16 seconds off her personal best time to win gold in the 1500-metre race at Casey Fields, finishing in 4.58.

She became the first Colac athlete to win gold at the event since Renee Wilmink, who also won gold in the 1500 metres.

Ellinor, who was among nine Colac athletes who qualified for the state championships, also won silver in the 800 metres, finishing one second behind the winner, in another personal best time of 2.23.

Ellinor’s mother Hege Eier said the young runner had been training hard with Athletics Victoria’s Little Athletics Junior Development Squad in the lead-up to the event, while also running every day after school.
