Recruiting paying off

The Elliminyt Tennis Club is reaping the rewards of its extensive junior recruiting campaign, with four teams qualifying for Polwarth district finals.

Club secretary Nancy May, who played a big role in the club’s recruiting, said the club fielded six teams in 2018-19, up from two the season before.

She said the success of the young teams had been an added bonus.

“Last year we had a team in Div One and a team in Div Four, but we’ve managed to add four more teams this season,” May said.

“Our numbers had dropped at the club, so we got into all the school newsletters and on social media because there are plenty of kids around,” she said.

“I’ve got two kids that play and they love tennis, we wanted more kids to get the chance to enjoy it as well.”

May, the mother of Division One player Emily Day and Division Four player Cooper Day, said coaching from John Rodger and John Postma had helped the players reach their potential this season.
