Tractor and truck crash in fog

Emergency services at the scene of a crash at Wyelangta, where a tractor and a log truck collided on Wednesday morning.

An Otways farmer is in hospital in a stable condition after his tractor and a log truck collided in heavy fog.

An air ambulance flew the 45-year-old Wyelangta man to the Royal Melbourne Hospital on Wednesday, following a crash at 9.20am on the Colac-Lavers Hill Road, six kilometres east of Lavers Hill.

Colac Highway Patrol Acting Sergeant Jamie Kahle said initial investigations determined that the driver of the tractor entered the road from the driveway of his residence but failed to see the log truck in the fog.

“It was a bit like a pea soup this morning, visibility was probably minimal,” Sgt Kahle said on Wednesday.

“The log truck driver has hit the brakes, but unfortunately hit the front of the tractor and flipped the tractor on its side.”

Emergency services then worked to free the tractor driver from the tractor’s cabin.
