Birregurra recruit’s year over

Star goaler Sarah Main will miss the remainder of the season for new club Birregurra after rupturing the ACL in her right knee.

Boom Birregurra netball recruit Sarah Main refuses to let her latest knee setback deny her the chance of adding to her tally of just one game with the Saints.

The former Australian junior representative will miss the entire 2019 campaign after rupturing an ACL in her right knee.

Main suffered the setback during a cameo appearance for the Geelong Cougars’ Division One side in the Victorian Netball League last week, delivering the news to Saints coach Jess Wood on the eve of their clash with the Western Eagles on Saturday.

The 25-year-old crossed to Birregurra in the off-season from Geelong league outfit South Barwon, joining her partner and Saints footballer Chad Baker at the club after recently opening a wholefoods store at nearby Winchelsea.

Main could be excused for putting her netball career on hold after a series of knee injuries impacted the former Australian 19-and-under representative’s blossoming career in the sport.

But the star goaler said she was eager to bounce back from her latest blow and play for the Saints again after featuring in their season opener against Alvie less than a fortnight ago.

Main said she had committed to a mentoring role for the remainder of the season with Birregurra.
